Orient secure Daniels return
07 Jan 2009 - 10:39:52
Leyton Orient have made their first move in the January transfer window by snapping up youngster Charlie Daniels from Tottenham Hotspur
Twenty-two-year-old Daniels returns to Orient after a season-long loan spell during 2007-08 and has penned an 18-month contract at Brisbane Road.
Despite spending six years at White Hart Lane, Daniels failed to make a first-team appearance for the Premier League side and played his senior football during loan spells with Chesterfield and Gillingham as well as the O's.
Daniels has scored three times in four outings for Tottenham's reserve side this season, as well as hitting the net during a month's loan with the Gills.
It was revealed that Orient attempted to sign Daniels during the summer, but were priced out of a move.
"Charlie was a target of ours in the summer, but we felt Spurs' valuation of him at that time was unrealistic so we moved on," said O's boss Martin Ling.
This time around though, Orient were able to land Daniels on a free transfer and the versatile left-sided player could make his debut this weekend as Ling's side travel to Leicester.
The O's manager also hinted that he may make more signings before the month ends.
"The transfer window is now open and this is the first step in our shuffling of the squad," he added.
