O's make Ashworth signing

Leyton Orient have completed the signing of teenage defender Luke Ashworth on a two-and-a-half year contract from Wigan Athletic.

The 19-year-old impressed while on loan at Bisbane Road earlier this season and has opted to drop down a couple of divisions to move his career forwards.

O's boss Martin Ling told the club's official website: "Luke has joined us on a long-term contract and I'm delighted to bring him back to Brisbane Road.

"I feel that we've been one light in the centre-half department all season and although we've covered that with loans so far, it's better to bring Luke in permanently.

"With Tamika Mkandawire, Brian Saah and Alton Thelwell in there too, I'm very happy with that part of my squad.

"Luke did very well during his time with us on loan and he's certainly one for the future."
