Leyton Orient are set to be without key defender Tamika Mkandawire for around a month as he requires surgery to correct a hernia problem.

The 24-year-old centre-half has been a virtual ever-present for the O's this season, having joined the League One club from Hereford United last summer.

O's boss Martin Ling told the club's official website: "We are told that the best-case scenario is that he will be out for three weeks, but it will probably be about a month.

"He's going to be a big miss, but the good news is that we have Alton Thelwell coming out of the treatment room as Tam goes in."

Mkandawire has scored three times in 37 appearances for the O's this season.
