End in sight for injured Gray

    19 Feb 2009 - 12:40:20

Leyton Orient striker Wayne Gray has stepped up his comeback from a cruciate injury by playing in a reserve team match.

The 28-year-old has been sidelined for the last six months and was relieved to come through 45 minutes of the second string's victory against Southend United's reserves unscathed.

"It's been a long road back and it was nice to be out playing football again," Gray said. "The knee felt 100 per cent fine, no problems at all and fingers crossed there will be no setbacks.

"The plan was to play 45 minutes, get through it and take it from there so it's a massive step forward.

"If selected and the manager wants me involved then I'm ready. Obviously I need to play a few more reserve games but I feel ready to be on the bench and be part of the squad."
