PFA Fans' Player of the Month: September 2013 - League One

By 02 October 2013 01:50

The first full month of the season is now complete and so it is time for fans to have their say and vote for the player who has impressed them most so far this season. It certainly has been an interesting first nine matches, the outcomes of which has left Leyton Orient top of League One.

It’s no surprise that two of the stand-out performers in League One come from the division’s top two clubs – Leyton Orient and Peterborough United.

The O’s have made a staggering start to the season and David Mooney played a major role by scoring four goals in as many games during September.

Mooney already has nine goals to his credit and his partnership with another contender, strike partner Kevin Lisbie, has helped Orient secure 25 points from a possible 27.

Almost as impressive is the start relegated Peterborough have made to their League One campaign – and that has been due in no small part to the form of striker Britt Assombalonga.

Posh’s record £1.5m signing has certainly hit the ground running for his new club and a seven-goal haul so far has already made him a London Road favourite.

Three goals in September helped maintain the club’s own impressive start to the season as Darren Ferguson’s men stand only three points shy of high-flying Orient.

Coventry have endured a difficult start at their new Sixfields ‘home’ but Callum Wilson has made light of the switch to Northampton and, like Mooney, has nine goals to his credit.

That is an impressive haul for a player whose club are currently in the bottom four, and it’s little wonder a number of bigger clubs are already sitting up and taking notice.

Nahki Wells has also been amongst the goals for Bradford whilst Preston’s Scott Laird is another player in contention for the September award.

Vote now for your choice of Player of the Month in the Premier League and all three divisions of the Football League. Voting closes at midnight on Friday October 4th and remember it is a free vote and the above are just the thoughts of the editorial team.
