The Brisbane Road club were in the relegation zone and had played two more games than their rivals when Ling's tenure was brought to an end at the start of February. Ling was replaced in the hot-seat by Geraint Williams who guided the club to safety, and Mkandawire - the Os' player of the year - is grateful that he did. "I think the new manager helped and sometimes you need a fresh start," he said. "He came in and freshened things up a bit. "I think it also dawned that we could get relegated and it inspired some of the boys that we needed to start putting some real hard work into games. "But we managed to turn it around and we did really well in the end."
