Newport see off Orient with Jamie Turley strike

Jamie Turley netted the only goal of the game as Newport recorded their first win of the season, 1-0 away at Leyton Orient.

Orient paid the price for terrible defending from a set-piece when a corner from the left after 34 minutes was flicked on by Marlon Jackson across the face of the box and the unmarked Turley, alone at the far post, was able to poke the ball home from close range.

The match had opened brightly with some neat football by both teams but a succession of fouls interrupted the flow and the quality slipped into mediocrity.

Although the home side had the greater possession after the interval, they seldom looked likely to break down a well-drilled County defence for whom keeper Joe Day commanded his area with authority.

The Os' best chance of salvaging a point fell to striker Ollie Palmer with seven minutes remaining. From four yards out, he launched himself at a cross from the left but his effort finished six yards wide of the target.
