League One FTBpro PFA Fan Player Of The Year Contender: David Mooney - Leyton Orient

22 May 2014 15:26

The former Republic of Ireland Under 23 international has certainly enjoyed a career resurgence since joining the O’s in the summer of 2011 after a three-year spell with Reading for who he was denied a single league appearance.

It’s been goals all the way since, and eight in the first ten games of the season led to him winning one of our fans’ player of the month awards.

Mooney has formed a prolific and profitable strike partnership with veteran forward Kevin Lisbie and between them have contributed almost 40 goals to Orient’s promotion challenge which has taken them all the way to Wembley and the brink of the Championship.

Lisbie is happy to go along with the view of TV pundit Iain Dowie who likened League One’s deadly duo to that of Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke during their halcyon days at Manchester United, and he is full of praise for Mooney.

He said: “Dave and I have a great understanding and we have created numerous chances for each other, but we obviously depend on the rest of our teammates.

“We’re not quite on Yorke and Cole's scale but I know what Dowie’s talking about, and at this stage of my career I could not have asked for a better strike partner than Dave.”

Voting is now open for the League One FTBpro PFA Fans' Player of the Year award and fans can cast their votes at http://www.football.co.uk/pfa-fans-player-of-the-month/index.shtml
