Hughes at the double

Lee Hughes opened and closed the scoring as Notts County made it three home wins on the bounce with a 3-2 victory over Leyton Orient at Meadow Lane. The Magpies broke the deadlock in the 14th minute from a whipped Ben Davies free-kick to the near post that Hughes nodded in. Seven minutes later the lead was doubled through Craig Westcarr, with the striker capitalising on a sloppy backpass and slotting precisely home. Just a minute later, though, Orient had pulled one back, as Adam Chambers' long-range shot was only palmed away by Stuart Nelson, and Ryan Jarvis reacted quickest to loop the ball over the stranded goalkeeper. The visitors were level nine minutes into the second half when Charlie Daniels' cross from the left eluded every man in black and white, allowing Matthew Spring to stoop and head into the bottom corner. But County made sure of the points 15 minutes from time after lively debutant Alan Judge fed John Thompson, and his drilled ball across the area was knocked in by a sliding Hughes.
