Leyton Orient chairman Barry Hearn has described the possibility of changing the format of the FA Cup as "sheer lunacy".
There have been calls for the Football Association to change the competition, with abandoning replays a way of helping fit a January break into the season.
Sir Alex Ferguson has been among those calling for change but Hearn does not agree, and told BBC 5 Live's Sportsweek programme: "Thoughts of seeding, thoughts of abandoning replays are sheer lunacy. If they (FA) can't see that they really shouldn't be the custodians of the FA Cup."
Hearn pointed to his own work in the world of snooker which is aimed at making the game more attractive to fans.
But he also expressed the need for caution over possible changes to the FA Cup.
"You wouldn't change the (snooker) world championship. That's got history, that's unique," he said.
"They could learn to exploit it (FA Cup) better, to make it more customer-friendly."
