Droylsden 1-1 Leyton Orient: Report

29 November 2010 21:55
McGleish rescues Os Scott McGleish spared Leyton Orient's blushes at non-league Droylsden with a second-half equaliser to earn a 1-1 draw in the FA Cup second round. The veteran hitman levelled the tie 17 minutes from time after Ciaran Kilheeney had given the Bloods a deserved half-time lead. Droylsden flew out of the traps and could have been two goals up in the first ten minutes with Alex Brown flashing a 25-yarder wide and the lively Kilheeney shooting straight at on-loan Blackburn goalkeeper Jason Brown. McGleish also saw a free-header expertly tipped over the bar by Paul Phillips in a frantic opening quarter. Jimmy Smith then fired wide for the League One side but the home team hit the front in the 24th minute when Kilheeney found space in the box to head home Liam Brownhill's free-kick. Nine minutes before the break Dean Cox's cross-shot flashed across the face of goal but Droylsden were good value for their lead at the interval. It was all one-way traffic after the break though with Aaron Brown and Terrell Forbes both wasting glorious chances. But the pressure finally told when Cox's cross from the right found McGleish to head goalwards with Phillips and the post unable to keep the ball out.
