Better side lost - Slade
Russell Slade felt his Leyton Orient side did more than enough during 90 goalless minutes against Brentford to progress to the next round of the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy.
Instead, the Os boss watched the visitors triumph 5-4 on penalties to book their place in the quarter-finals.
Counterpart Andy Scott labelled the tie "the most horrific game I've been involved with", continuing: "The quality was terrible, it was just a poor, poor game and I feel sorry for the people who turned up to watch it."
But Slade said: "I was surprised that the game went to penalties because the best team lost by a country mile. Without a doubt my young goalkeeper Lee Butcher hasn't had a single thing to do in the second period and in that second half I thought we created some super openings.
"Maybe Jonathan Tehoue and Matthew Spring could have done better with their opportunities but we were worth a couple of goals in the second half. I`m a little bit frustrated with the quality of our finishing but don't forget that Ryan Jarvis and James Walker haven`t had too many starts.
"It was a strong Brentford side that we played and we didn't just hold them, we were the better team. There were plenty of positives for us to take from the game."
