Leicester City centre-back Paddy McCarthy is enjoying the battle for a first team place at the Walkers Stadium and claims it is one of the reasons for the defence's good recent record.
The Foxes have kept three successive clean sheets and McCarthy feels that, with players fearing one bad game could result in being dropped, they are all on top of their game.
He told the Leicester Mercury: "You know that if you take your foot off the gas, then someone is going to take your jersey.
"At the moment Nils-Eric Johansson is at left-back, but he could step across.
"And there is also Alan Sheehan, Peter Gilbert and Richard Stearman waiting for their chance."
