Mattock boost for Foxes
13 Aug 2008 - 16:31:11
Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson has allayed fears that defender Joe Mattock picked up a serious ankle injury during Tuesday's Carling Cup victory over Stockport County.
The England Under-21 international was stretched off in the closing stages of the 1-0 first-round victory at the Walkers Stadium amid fears of a broken ankle.
But despite admitting that Mattock will be sidelined for 'several weeks', Pearson has revealed that the injury is not as bad as was first feared.
"The tests there have fortunately revealed that there was no fracture to his left ankle," Pearson told the club's official website.
"Joe is now back at the training ground where the medical team will continue to assess his situation.
"At the moment it looks like he has sustained serious ligament damage which will keep him out for several weeks.
"But at the moment it is certainly better than we had initially envisaged."
