Leicester City boss Rob Kelly heaped praise on his youngsters after they fired the side into the second round of the Carling Cup with a 2-0 win against Macclesfield.
Chris O'Grady, making a first senior start for the Foxes, and Paddy McCarthy were on target as they eased past their League Two opposition in front of just over 6,000 fans - the lowest crowd ever recorded at the Walkers Stadium.
However, Kelly was delighted with the way the younger players adapted to playing in the first team and can see a promising future for the club.
He said: "We're not big enough to play an Under-21 side to see how the young lads are going, so we approached this as an important first-team fixture.
"And what I saw was out there was very promising.
"The future looks good and I believe we've got 20 players here who form a very competitive squad."
