Canada striker Iain Hume is on the verge of joining Leicester City after Tranmere Rovers accepted a £500,000 offer.
Rovers rejected bids from Preston and Sheffield Wednesday earlier in the summer, but decided to sanction this deal, which includes an additional £250,000 payment if the Foxes are promoted and a 10 per cent sell-on clause, after the 21-year-old made it clear he wanted to try his luck in the Championship.
Chairman Lorraine Rogers told Rovers' official website: "Iain has clearly been unsettled and this was a factor.
"He made his views plain both directly and indirectly. Leicester have proposed a very good deal for the club and, therefore, we have given Iain permission to talk to them."
Hume scored 32 times in 149 League outings for Tranmere after progressing from the club's youth set-up.
