Halsey returns to the middle

Published: 09 Mar 2010 - 12:17:00

And assistant Leicester assistant manager Craig Shakespeare has promised a warm welcome for the Hertfordshire official. Halsey, one of the country's most popular and high profile referees, is in remission after being diagnosed with throat cancer last August. The 48-year-old is set to take charge of Leicester's reserve game against Scunthorpe at Hinckley's Greene King Stadium as he takes his first step towards a return to the Premier League. Shakespeare said: "I am really pleased to hear Mark is on his way back after his illness. He has shown great determination to get back out there and he is a referee I hold in high esteem. He has overcome a terrible illness and shown a lot of courage. "I will tell our lads to give him as much stick as they can - just so his return is as normal as possible. When he makes his first bad decision he will know he is back - and I am sure he won't want it any other way."
