From elation to heart-breaking disbelief in a matter of seconds: Leicester's dramatic play-off exit

The incredibly cruel final moments of yesterday's play-off semi final second leg will live long in the memory.

Whilst most Leicester fans will recall darker days in the club's history, few occasions match-up to yesterday's heart-stoppingly sudden play-off exit at the hands of Gianfranco Zola's Watford.

Even in the last decade we have witnessed the club's first (and hopefully, last) relegation to the third-tier at the hands of Ian Holloway, and nobody will forget the penalty shoot-out loss at Cardiff - most certainly a less-deserved play-off semi final defeat than the one we suffered yesterday.

And yet, for lack of another word to describe the seconds which followed Yann Kermorgant’s (Sorry, did I say that? I of course meant Anthony Knockaert's) last-minute penalty, the scenes really were nothing short of unbelievable.

What is perhaps the hardest to accept, is the fact that the Foxes whole season can be summed up perfectly by those ten, oh-so-inconsistent seconds.

From pure elation to disbelief and equally pure heartbreak in a matter of moments? Only football could serve up such a toxic concoction of emotion. It is something that will live on in the memory of the Blue Army forever.

And yet, as I drove home yesterday, caught up in an all-too-familiar state of shock and disbelief at what I had witnessed, a quick glance over to the Ricoh Arena in the distance reminded me that things can always be worse.

Keep The Faith!
