Leicester City fended off a transfer deadline day bid from Sunderland for promising young defender Richard Stearman.
The 19-year-old was on the wish-list of new Black Cats boss Roy Keane, but the Foxes were unwilling to part with one of their rising stars.
City manager Rob Kelly told the club's official website: "In Richard we believe we have one of the very best young players in the country.
"We are in the business of building and developing a squad of players here to bring future success to the club."
Stearman made his Foxes bow in October 2004 against Cardiff City and has gone on to make just over 50 first-team appearances for the Walkers Stadium club.
