Fit Again Kirkland Pushing For Debut
Chris Kirkland is expected to return to Leicester this week in the hope of proving his fitness to the Foxes medical staff. The 'keeper, on loan from Wigan Athletic, was expected to make his debut in the home clash with Nottingham Forest over a week ago. However, a reoccurence of the back injury that has plagued his career struck again on his first day at the Belvoir Drive training ground and the 29-year-old returned to Wigan for treatment. Kirkland has now declared himself fit and ready to play should City boss Sven Goran-Eriksson decide to replace number one Chris Weale - who gifted Watford their second goal with an outrageous mistake on Saturday in the Foxes 3-2 defeat at Vicarage Road. Kirkland said: 'A lot’s been made of it again, but it’s fine now. 'I think the loan was going to be cancelled at one point last week, because it looked as though I’d be out for a couple of weeks. 'But thank goodness that’s no longer the case, and hopefully I can get down there later this week, prove my fitness to everyone and get out there on the pitch. 'I’ve spoken to the coaches at Leicester and they’re monitoring the situation. 'But I’m still a Leicester City player on loan, and hopefully I can rejoin the squad and push for a start this weekend.' He added.
