Yakubu 'Close' To Signing

12 January 2011 10:36
Everton and Nigeria striker Yakubu Ayegbeni is set to take a medical today ahead of his expected loan move to the Walkers Stadium. The 28-year-old Nigeria international will be rescued from the Goodison Park wilderness in a bid to bolster Sven Goran-Eriksson's attack as the Foxes seek a late surge for the Championship play-offs. Everton boss David Moyes has several quality attacking options at his disposal and Yakubu has fallen down the pecking order at Merseyside, with the likes of Jermain Beckford and Louis Saha emerging as Moyes' preferrred starters. As a result, Yakubu - a record £11m signing for the Toffees in 2007 - has made just eight appearances this season for the Premier League outfit, scoring on one occasion.  The former Portsmouth and Middlesborough talisman is set to sign a contract keeping him at Leicester until the end of this season and Eriksson has not ruled out trying to lure Yakubu into a permanent move to the Walkers Stadium. Yakubu did not play for Everton in their emphatic 5-1 FA Cup Third Round win away at Scunthorpe United and so will be elegible for the Foxes trip to Eastlands on Tuesday night where Eriksson's men hope for a glorious cup upset over Roberto Mancini's Manchester City.
