City's slim Championship play-off aspirations were completely dashed on Saturday when they could only manage a draw at Doncaster, and Nottingham Forest emphatically beat Scunthorpe.
Eriksson believes the game at the Keepmoat Stadium is the kind the Foxes must start winning next season if they are to mount a consistent challenge.
"We should be winning those type of matches but many times this season we haven't and that is why we are where we are in the table," said Eriksson.
"Now we have to produce a big performance at home against Ipswich in front of our fans and then we have to start to think about next season, learn from this season and the little mistakes we have been doing, and try to do it better next season.
"We have to do it better next season."
