Remember Mandaric's Three Year Plan!?

05 May 2010 14:35
When Milan Mandaric took ownership of Leicester City in May 2007, he revealed a three year plan to get the Foxes back into the Premier League. With multi-millionaire Milan Mandaric strolling through the doors at the Walkers Stadium with his pockets bursting at the seams with hard cash and a promise of Premier League football within three years, the glory days looked set to return. However, unless you are a Playstation fan, football rarely follows the Hollywood formula and so, after Mandaric's disasterous first season at the Walkers Stadium - a season that saw the likes of self proclaimed Mad Dog, Martin Allen and hopeless Ian Holloway come and go with their tails between their legs - the inevitable relegation to League One was confirmed on the final day of the season at Stoke City. A 30 year target seemed more likely. The recruitment of Nigel Pearson failed to capture the imagination of the Foxes Faithful - after all, he wasn't exactly a household name - a Third Tier team was hardly going to attract Arsene Wenger after all. And yet,  Pearson has perhaps assembled the best Leicester team since our traumatic divorce from Martin O'Neill all those years ago. And so, a League One title winning season and a fifth place Championship finish later and Pearson has taken the Foxes to within three matches of achieving Mandaric's three year dream. Who would have dared to dream on that fateful day in May at The Britannia Stadium just two years ago? Football is a strange yet beautiful game.
