Professional Foxes please Pearson

The Championship side should have added more in the first half at Moss Rose on Wednesday night but squandered a succession of chances as the home side held on by the skin of their teeth. Young striker Danny N'Guessan set up the win with an audacious back-heel in the 58th minute that fired low into the bottom of the net. Prize asset Matty Fryatt then sealed the victory with a 73rd minute goal to add to his ever-growing price tag. Racing neck and neck with centre-back Paul Morgan from the halfway line, he won the race to the ball before checking inside the big defender and lashing a left-foot shot off the post and crossbar. Delighted Leicester manager Pearson said: "I'm pleased that Matty got off the mark. He's had a very difficult pre-season but he's a key member of our squad and he took his goal with some aplomb." Pearson added: "It was a thoroughly professional display. We passed the ball well and though we might have had more goals you have to give credit to Macclesfield for defending well. I'm delighted to go into Saturday's game with two wins because in games like this as we saw last night it's all too easy to come unstuck." Macclesfield might have equalised with one of their rare attacks in the 67th minute when sub Izak Reid saw a deflected shot bounce off the crossbar but over the waiting Junior Daniel, who was hoping to nod home the rebound. Manager Keith Alexander admitted his side had been given a lesson: He said: "Leicester are a powerful, athletic and strong side who play their game full of skill and energy, all the things we aspire to. It gave our youngsters a genuine lesson tonight and I hope it's something we can learn from. "We held them for the first half though to be fair they had more than enough chances to take the lead. But as we saw in some games last night, the longer the match continues the more inevitable that the higher league side will take advantage and that's what's happened here." Leicester nearly took the lead in the 13th minute when Nicky Adams saw a curling free kick tipped wide by the excellent Jon Brain. In the 27th minute Matt Oakley then crashed a low volley off the upright but luckily into the arms of the waiting keeper. Ritchie Wellens was the next to go close playing a neat one-two off Oakley before sending a rising half-volley inches wide of the post. Fryatt then could have scored in first-half injury time but having beaten the keeper he saw his low drive cleared off the line by Carl Tremarco.
