Pearson gunning for the big time

Leicester came from 1-0 down to defeat Swansea 2-1 at the Walkers Stadium. The Leicester manager said: "We expect big things from ourselves this year, but you have to say there must be a dozen clubs who think they've got a chance to be in the mix at the end of the season. "The fans expect us to have a good season, and I do as well." Swansea were handed a 16th-minute lead when the Leicester rearguard gifted Ashley Williams a free header to a Mark Gower corner. Swansea appeared to have sealed the win when goalkeeper Dorus de Vries flung himself to the left to save Steve Howard's penalty after Bruno Berner was tripped by Williams after 52 minutes. But Leicester's half-time substitutes turned the game on its head. In the 67th minute De Vries was wrong-footed by Martyn Waghorn's deflected shot and then after 71 minutes Dany N'Guessan drove home from close range after Matt Oakley's corner. Pearson said: "I thought we deserved the win although we caused ourselves problems in the first half when we conceded a goal from a set-play." Pearson recognised the acclaim would go to the goalscorers, but emphasised that it had been a victory the whole side deserved. "I am delighted for the players," he said. "It's a squad game and it was also good to see the substitutes making an impact." Pearson reserved special praise for N'Guessan, saying: "It's a big step up for Dan, but he's hard-working and when you look him in the eye you can tell he wants to be successful. Reflecting on the overall performance, Pearson said: "Apart from the goal, it was difficult to see where their threat would come from. "As well as our goals, we also missed a penalty and hit the bar and had other chances and overall we were well worth our win." Swansea manager Paulo Sousa pinpointed the loss of midfielder Joe Allen to injury midway through the first half as the key factor in his team's defeat. Sousa said: "We started well and were winning the game but the loss of Joe Allen was crucial. "He was the link between our defence and attack, and after he went off injured our forwards lost confidence and we went on to concede the game. "But we can do much better than that, of this I have no doubt because I have every confidence in the players."
