Boss Nigel Pearson called for a reaction from Leicester to ensure they keep their survival bid on track.
The Foxes host struggling Newcastle on Saturday just a point above the Barclays Premier League relegation zone.
Their four-match winning run ended on Wednesday with a 3-1 defeat to Chelsea at the King Power Stadium.
Newcastle have lost their last seven games and victory would leave Leicester just a point behind them.
And with four games left, Pearson believes the match could be crucial for their run-in.
He said: "How we react could set the mood for the remaining games. What is important is we go into the final few games with destiny in our hands.
"It's not a case of now changing the plan. That's how we intend to go about the next games.
"We have four games left, three at home. It will be wide of the mark to say one game will be easier than the other. We need to make sure our performances remain of a high standard.
"The bottom line is I'm sitting here and I'm very pleased to have the group of players we have. We all try and manage the situation as best as we can do. There is a strange perception that the hard work is over.
"That's not the case, it's important we keep everyone on their toes."
On Thursday Pearson apologised to journalist Ian Baker after calling him an "ostrich" and "stupid" for asking him to clarify what specific criticism about his players had upset him.
Pearson's bizarre rant on Wednesday night overshadowed a decent performance against the champions-elect.
But despite the extra attention and defeat, Pearson's believes the Foxes are still well equipped to survive.
"We didn't get anything out of the game. I would prefer to be talking about something else," he said.
"I know our players are capable. We have played very good sides this season and we have to recognise that to be a success there is an element that we have to learn quickly with limited Premier League experience, and that has possibly been one of the reasons in tight games where it has not gone our way."
David Nugent is out with a calf problem and Robert Huth (calf) and Andy King (hamstring) are major doubts but Jeff Schlupp is back from his own calf injury.
