Leicester captain Wes Morgan believes the Foxes are capable of taking the next step and establishing themselves in the Barclays Premier League.
Nigel Pearson's side had to rely on incredible end-of-season form to protect their top-flight status, winning seven and drawing one of their last nine games to rise from the bottom of the table to a 14th-place finish.
But central defender Morgan says Leicester's great escape has given the squad the confidence to kick on next season and stay clear of another relegation battle.
"We want to establish ourselves now and I think we can do that," Morgan said.
"We've shown what we can do this season and I think we're better than a good portion of the teams in this league.
"But it's one thing saying that, you have to go out and prove it.
"We don't want to be in a position we've found ourselves in this season and the ambition now is to start challenging and winning more games."
Leicester had 10 points from 17 games at Christmas and only West Brom in 2005 and Sunderland last year had previously survived after being bottom over the festive period.
Pearson's role was brought into question in February but the club issued a statement that he would remain as manager amid reports that he had been sacked, and Morgan says the squad's belief that they could stay up never wavered.
"There has been a lot of ups and downs but in the last couple of months we've completed the mission, which was to survive in this league," Morgan said.
"We knew we could do it, it was just turning it around and showing people.
"It's good to prove everyone wrong really because a lot of people wrote us off a couple of months ago.
"It's an unbelievable feeling to stay up against all the odds and to get in the position we are now is quite an achievement."
The 31-year-old Morgan has little time, however, to celebrate Leicester's survival as he now heads off to prepare for Jamaica's Copa America campaign in Chile next month.
Jamaica are one of two CONCACAF nations invited to the South American tournament and Morgan is set to come up against the likes of Lionel Messi and Edinson Cavani with Argentina and Uruguay in the Reggae Boyz's group, although Barcelona's Luis Suarez will be absent as he is still serving an international suspension.
"I'm not going to have much of a rest this summer but there's good games to play in and some quality opposition," Morgan said.
"It's probably a once in a lifetime chance to play against those players."
