Leicester set to up ante in bid to sign Middlesbrough forward Gaston Ramirez

Leicester are expected to increase their efforts to sign Middlesbrough forward Gaston Ramirez over the weekend.

Press Association Sport understands the Premier League champions have already had an offer for the 26-year-old turned down by Boro but Ramirez has reportedly handed in a transfer request in an attempt to force a move to the King Power Stadium.

The transfer window closes on Tuesday night, around an hour and a half after Leicester's league match at Burnley, and manager Claudio Ranieri is keen to reinforce his squad with Ramirez, who only signed a permanent deal with Boro last summer, top of his wanted list.

Ranieri would not talk about any specific players following Friday night's FA Cup draw at Derby but he said: "Yes it is important (to add to the squad), of course. I will now speak together with my sporting director to see if there is something good. If not then okay.

"I was so concentrated on this match I didn't think about the market. Now my mind is going to Burnley because it is a very important match."

Wes Morgan's equaliser four minutes from time earned Leicester a replay against Derby as it finished 2-2 at Pride Park.

Ranieri was pleased with how his side battled back but the Italian knows Leicester must improve defensively.

He said: "We showed attitude and character and created many chances but we have to concentrate. Too many times we concede. We can only work and be more focused."

It looked like Craig Bryson's lovely individual goal just before half-time would give Derby victory over their east midlands rivals, before former Nottingham Forest defender Morgan silenced the home supporters.

It was Bryson's first goal since April and Rams boss Steve McClaren hopes the midfielder will now go on to get his name on the scoresheet more regularly.

"It was worth waiting for and it was a great goal from Craig," said McClaren.

"It was about time we started scoring from midfield so that's good to see and hopefully a sign of things to come."

The fourth round replay will take place at the King Power Stadium on February 8.
