Leicester close to Kirkland deal

Leicester City are closing in on a loan deal for Wigan Athletic's out-of-favour goalkeeper Chris Kirkland.The 29-year-old looked set to join the Foxes last week but the move was postponed as he picked up a virus. [LNB]The former Liverpool keeper started the season as first choice at Wigan but has since lost his place to Ali Al Habsi. [LNB]Kirkland, who has one England cap, was originally called into the squad while current Foxes boss Sven-Goran Eriksson was in charge of the national team. [LNB]But the Barwell-born former Coventry trainee's only international appearance came under the Swede's successor, Steve McLaren, as a half-time substitute in the 4-0 win over Greece in 2006.
