Has Gary Lineker let slip what's really been going on at Leicester?

As celebrity Leicester fans go, they don’t get much bigger than Gary Lineker.

And the Match of the Day host appears to have some inside info about goings-on at the Premier League club which have led to confusion about the future of boss Nigel Pearson.

Pearson, who was rumoured to have been sacked on Sunday, was involved in a bizarre flashpoint with the Crystal Palace midfielder in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to the Eagles, when he appeared to grab James McArthur by the throat.

And Pearson thought the way it was covered by Gary Lineker, Danny Murphy and Jermaine Jenas was unfair.

He said: “It’s not helpful when the three fountains of knowledge on Match of the Day make a mountain out molehill, there’s nothing in that on Saturday. The lad’s okay and it was very light-hearted.

“How it was reported was totally inaccurate. Our owners are fine, as they were with the incident with the fan (when he was involved in a row with a supporter against Liverpool in December). You’re looking for news which is not there.”

Lineker responded to Pearson via Twitter – then got involved in an exchange which seemed to imply he knew what was going on behind the scenes.

City are owned by the Thai Srivaddhanaprabha family.

Asked to clarify the situation ahead of tomorrow’s match against Arsenal, Pearson said: “I understand the interest and you wanting to ask questions, but I have loyalties to the people I work for, my staff and the players, which really is more important to me than trying to clarify things for a story which was based on speculation.”
