Championship FTBpro PFA Fan Player Of The Year Contender: Wes Morgan - Leicester City

23 May 2014 10:37

Having served his hometown club Nottingham Forest with such distinction for ten years, Wes joined Leicester in January 2012 and was named the club’s player of the season at the end of a campaign which ended in play-off disappointment.

No such heartache this time around, and Wes’s defensive partnership with Liam Moore has been a key factor behind City’s return to the top flight as worthy champions. Not that manager Nigel Pearson expected anything less of his accomplished centre back.

The Leicester captain described lifting the Football League trophy as a dream come true, and believes it was justification for leaving his beloved Forest. "It is an unbelievable feeling and something I have waited to do all my career," he said.

"It has been a massive season with the amount of points we have got and being promoted with six games left. There have been so many positives throughout the season and I am just delighted to be the captain of Leicester City and lift that trophy.

"It has been fantastic. You can't argue we haven't been the best team throughout the season. We have to enjoy the moment and then get fit and ready for next season.”
