United pleased to land Becchio

Leeds United boss Gary McAllister has made Luciano Becchio his fifth signing of the summer.

The 24-year-old Argentinian has penned a three-year deal with the League One side after impressing while on trial at Elland Road.

McAllister told United's official website: "We'd had reports on Luciano, seen DVDs, and had a good look at him in training. We were very keen to get him in and he'll be a real threat for us.

"I've been pleased with what I've seen of him in the games and, although he's lacking in match fitness, he realises that and we still have ten days before the season starts. He's working hard.

"He's got a good instinct, he'll be dangerous, and along with Jermaine (Beckford), Enoch (Showunmi), Robert Snodgrass, and Andy Robinson, it gives us five offensive players who will also allow us to make little changes in shape."

Becchio has spent the last five years in Spain and scored 22 goals in 38 appearances for Segunda B side Merida last term.
