Thompson calls it a day

Leeds United captain Alan Thompson has announced his retirement from the game.
The 34-year-old midfielder moved to Elland Road from Celtic in January 2007 but made only 25 appearances for the club and none in the last three months of the campaign.
In a 17-year professional career, he made more than 550 first-team appearances and also won one England cap - against Sweden in 2004.
"I've had a good career, but I've decided to call it a day," Thompson told United's official website.
"The high point was playing for England, but I've got plenty of good memories. I'm going to take a bit of time out now, but I'd like to stay involved in the game."
