Sweeney departs from Elland Road

The 24-year-old, who arrived at Leeds from Stoke on a free transfer in January 2008, failed to appear for Simon Grayson's side last season and joined Grimsby on loan for the final two months of the season. Grayson said: "Sweens is at the stage of his career where he needs to play regular football and I can't guarantee him that here. He goes with our best wishes." Sweeney played eight times for Grimsby and Mariners manager Mike Newell has expressed his interest in signing the former Millwall midfielder on a permanent basis.
