McAllister - Possible New Coach At Leeds United
With all the problems that new Leeds owner Massimo Cellino is facing, paying wages bills that had been deferred and now a possibility of having to pay off a second winding up petition, one wonders just where the good news is going to come from at Elland Road.
But fans are becoming optimistic after Cellino said last week that the next Coach is going to not be Italian, but British. With the penchant in the Premier League being for international managers and coaches, one could be mistaken for Cellino going for the European Coach, but it now transpires that Gary McAllister is in the running to take over where Brian McDermott left off.
Three British coaches will be interviewed for the role, according to sources at the Yorkshire club and the 49 year old former Manager is one of them. Whoever is signed, it is understood that the person will have to work under another person in the guise of Director of Football.
But will this work? Will the appointed man have the autonomy to make the right decisions where it matters, on the pitch? One would hope that the answer to that is a resounding yes and that McAllister, former player and manager, is the right man for the job. Only time will tell. We all remember seeing the man on the pitch but what we now need to see is that same determination to succeed in this new role, should he be appointed.
Whoever is appointed by Cellino has a massive job ahead of them. The club, who finished 15th this year, do not want to be mid-table any longer and the fans expect so much more from players and staff alike. Only the best is what is needed now to make Cellino’s claim come true; Premier League football within two seasons.
