Leeds wait on Westlake
01 Mar 2007 - 12:09:49
Leeds United's hopes of avoiding the drop have been hit by the news that Ian Westlake could be sidelined for several weeks.
Midfielder Westlake has sat out the Championship bottom club's last three games with a groin problem which could require surgery.
"Westy has a problem with his groin," Leeds boss Dennis Wise told the club's official website.
"He needs to see a specialist, have an injection, and we'll see how things go from there."
Meanwhile, Wise has hit out at players whose wage demands have prevented them from signing for the Elland Road club on loan.
"(Sunderland boss) Roy Keane hit the nail on the head when he was talking about signing players. He said it is always about 'how much'," continued Wise.
"Players want to know what they are going to get, they want assurances of being signed permanently at the end of the loan.
"They are always looking at the financial side of things, rather than the real challenge at Leeds.
"Because it is Leeds and the club had a big reputation a few seasons ago of paying big money, they have pound signs in their eyes."
