Leeds United confident of Premier League return next season, says Ken Bates

The Elland Road have only won one of their last five games and have suffered heavy defeats at the hands of Barnsley and Preston North End but Bates remains bullish about Leeds' Championship promotion prospects. 'There are two lots of Leeds fans,' Bates said. 'One thinks we're going to walk through the division and another thinks it's going to be a season of consolidation. 'I thought, and I still think, that we will be up there in the top six or seven hopefully top six fighting it out at the end of the season. 'We're 10 games in, we've seen the calibre of the opposition, and with the exception of (leaders) Queens Park Rangers there's nobody outstanding. Teams are losing to each other every week. 'There's nobody getting away, other than QPR who have got off to a good start, and anybody who strings a run together could be in contention. That could include Leeds United.' Leeds relegated from the Premier League six years ago - are currently tenth in the division following promotion from League One last term. The Yorkshire side will be looking to get back to winning ways at Middlesbrough a week on Saturday to revitalise a push for promotion to the top tier of English football 'I'm not at all dispirited, I am probably unhappy about the two games that have blotted a reasonable start,' Bates added. 'To win four games out of eight is promotion material. Ipswich on Saturday could have gone either way and on another day we would have won it and Ipswich have been moaning. 'And don't forget that at Christmas, Norwich were 11 points behind us and finished 11 points ahead of us.' ends
