    Leeds lose but stay top

    24 Oct 2009 - 17:05:43

Leeds United remain at the top of the League One table despite losing 2-1 at Millwall as second-placed Charlton Athletic could only draw 1-1 at Gillingham.

Neil Harris headed home his tenth goal of the season in the third minute from Chris Hackett's free-kick to put the Lions ahead only for Patrick Kisnorbo to lash home the equaliser nine minutes later.

Gary Alexander grabbed Millwall's winner with seven minutes left as Simon Grayson's side lost for the first time this season.

Charlton led at Priestfield when John Nutter scored an own goal in the 79th minute but Simeon Jackson netted for the Gills just three minutes later.

Kevin Lisbie's brace kept Colchester United on the promotion trail as Adrian Boothroyd's team beat mid-table Walsall 2-1.

The former Charlton Athletic striker gave the U's a 26th-minute lead and, although Darren Byfield equalised for the Saddlers within 60 seconds, Lisbie's penalty on the hour lifted the U's up to third.

MK Dons suffered a setback as they lost 3-1 at in-form Southampton even after taking the lead on the stroke of half-time when Jason Puncheon netted.

Dean Hammond equalised in the 56th minute before Rickie Lambert snatched the Saints' second with 16 minutes left. David Connolly added a third goal for Alan Pardew's side in stoppage time.

Carlisle United moved out of the relegation zone after beating Southend United 2-1. Vincent Pericard gave Greg Abbott's side an 11th-minute lead and, although Francis Laurent equalised three minutes before half-time, Joe Anyinsah scored Carlisle's winner with ten minutes remaining.

Norwich City continued their recent surge up the table by beating Swindon Town 1-0 at Carrow Road, Chris Martin grabbing the vital goal in the 32nd minute.

The relegation battle between Exeter City and rock-bottom Wycombe Wanderers ended 1-1. Matt Harold's penalty in the 42nd minute looked set to be decisive at St James Park but Barry Corr equalised in stoppage time for the Grecians.

Peter Hartley scored the only goal as Hartlepool United beat Tranmere Rovers while Yeovil Town came from behind to beat Bristol Rovers 2-1 in the West Country derby.

The Pirates took the lead just after the interval through Chris Dickson but the Glovers equalised thanks to Jonathan Obika and Terrell Forbes netted the winner in the 64th minute.

Brighton look set for another battle to avoid relegation after they lost 2-0 at home to Oldham Athletic, Pawel Abott and Reuben Hazell netting second-half goals for the Latics, while Huddersfield Town beat Leyton Orient 4-0 thanks to goal by Gary Roberts, Nathan Clarke Michael Collins and Jordan Rhodes.

Charlie MacDonald and Myles Weston netted for Brentford as they beat Stockport County 2-0, a result that leaves the Hatters only one point above the relegation zone.
