Howson set for new deal

Leeds United midfielder Jonny Howson will be offered a new contract by the club this summer after enjoying a fine season at Elland Road.

The 20-year-old, who only made his first-team debut in September 2006, has gone on to score five goals in 46 appearances for United, and was one of his side's best players in Sunday's League One play-off final defeat to Doncaster Rovers.

"We're planning to give Jonny Howson a new contract," Leeds chairman Ken Bates confirmed to United's official website.

"If it hadn't been for the play-offs it's something we'd have looked at already. Obviously there have been other priorities and we've had to delay discussions slightly, but we'll look to sort it out quickly."
