Healy to lead ailing Leeds
12 Apr 2007 - 13:33:50
Leeds United have handed the captain's armband to David Healy as regular skipper Jonathan Douglas has effectively been ruled out for the rest of the season through suspension.
Douglas was sent off in the immediate aftermath of Monday's 2-1 defeat at Colchester United by referee Alan Wiley.
The Irish midfielder will miss the next two games, but also three subsequent matches, after picking up his 15th booking of the campaign earlier in the same match.
The Football Association has yet to ratify Douglas' ban, but Leeds boss Dennis Wise has pre-empted the lengthy suspension by handing the armband to Northern Ireland international Healy.
"I was very proud when the gaffer asked me if I'd become captain," he told the club's official website.
"It's genuinely a real honour to be asked to captain a club like this, I have no doubt about that.
"We've got four games left and I'm looking forward to them."
