Furious Wise slams referee

Furious Leeds United boss Dennis Wise slammed the performance of referee Nigel Miller after Saturday's 1-1 draw with fellow Championship strugglers Southend United.

Wise was livid after Miller failed to award his side a 90th-minute penalty when Southend defender Simon Francis appeared to handle the ball in the penalty area.

Sixty seconds previously, the Championship's bottom club had levelled Mark Gower's opener through substitute David Healy.

The Leeds boss was sent to the stands for contesting the decision and aimed a blast at the official after the final whistle.

"It wasn't a push, the ref gave the penalty and then the linesman said it was our player's arm - but it wasn't," said Wise.

"You only need to look at the reaction of the Southend players - they all had their hands on their heads.

"I've had problems with him before. I told him I don't want him as a referee. For me he's not good and I don't want him to referee for me again.

"I hope there was an assessor here and I hope they put him down a couple of divisions. He gave the penalty and then he pointed the other way. It's a disgrace."
