Derry set for Whites exit

Leeds United boss Dennis Wise has told Shaun Derry he is free to seek a loan move away from Elland Road in a bid to regain his match fitness.

Derry, 29, has returned to training following a nine-month injury lay-off, but having slipped down the pecking order, the midfielder has been told he can leave on loan.

However, Wise has suggested the former Crystal Palace and Portsmouth midfielder's long-term future does not lie at Elland Road.

"I've talked with Shaun about allowing him to go on loan," Wise told the club's official website.

"In the midfield department it's looking okay at the moment, even with Alan Thompson out for a while, and a loan move would be a good opportunity for Shaun to get some fitness.

"There's a certain standard of fitness needed and Shaun needs to improve on that, even from last season when he was playing.

"He needs to get past that level, and he needs to play. He can go on loan, get fit, and we'll take it from there.

"My long-term plans, at this present moment, are that he wouldn't figure. But it changes and the door isn't shut for Shaun."
