Leeds United defender Stephen Crainey is set to miss the rest of the season after making little progress in his recovery from a pelvic injury.
The Scotland international has played just ten games for the Whites since his summer move from Southampton, with the pelvic problem keeping him sidelined since early October.
Crainey was told that six weeks of rest could be enough for the problem to heal, but that was not the case and he is now facing the prospect of season-ending surgery.
Manager Kevin Blackwell told the club's official website: "Unfortunately for Stephen, it looks as though he might require an operation, and if that's the case then we have lost him for the rest of the season.
"We were asked to wait six weeks to see if he would overcome the situation, and we're in the fifth week now. To be honest, it's not looking good."
