Leeds United captain Paul Butler is backing a move which would see the club go into administration even though it would mean a ten-point deduction.
Chairman Gerald Krasner has started negotiations with Leeds-based property developer Norman Stubbs about a possible takeover following last week's collapse of Sebastien Sainsbury's bid to buy the Whites.
However, with any deal still far from materialising, Butler feels it would be in the best interests of the Elland Road outfit if they went into administration now rather than wait until later in the season when the Football League points penalty could cost them their Championship status.
He told the Yorkshire Post: "We need to know now because I think it is only a matter of time before they take the ten points off us.
"If the club gets it sorted out at least we will know in our minds whether we are looking at a relegation battle. The worry is it (administration) happening in March, which will be horrendous as there will only be a few games left to get out of trouble.
"We need to know where we stand and so does the manager. Going into administration will be for the good of the club because once it happens we can then all move forward together."
