Leeds United midfielder Eirik Bakke is hoping to impress this season, with his current Whites contract set to run out next summer.
The 28-year-old Norway international has struggled with injury in recent times, while he looked set to join Aston Villa last summer after impressing while on loan at Villa Park.
However, having returned to to Elland Road and found full fitness, Bakke wants to repay his current employers' faith.
He told the Yorkshire Post: "Of course I want to impress, but whatever happens after this season I want to do well for the club.
"They've been good to me when I've been injured, and I've had some excellent years here. The main thing is to be fit for selection and involved every week.
"After that I'll see where it takes me, but I'm just looking forward to the next game.
"I don't like to look much further ahead than that because you never know what's round the corner. I've seen that with injuries many times."
Bakke has been with Leeds since the summer of 1999, scoring 21 goals in 196 first-team appearances.
