Alan Thompson has pledged to win back his first-team place following his return to Leeds United.

The veteran winger has gone back to the League One club after being allowed to join Hartlepool United on loan by former manager Dennis Wise.

However, following the appointment of Gary McAllister to the Elland Road hot-seat, Thompson believes he could still have a part to play this season.

"It was good at Hartlepool from a few points of view," he told the club's official website. "I stayed fit. I played seven games in a row, and that was good.

"I'm just trying to take that on now. I want to stay fit and get some success at Leeds. There's new management now and we have to move forward.

"We used to train as a big group with Dennis but that's been cut down a bit.

"The numbers are smaller, the quality is there, and it's bright. It's as bright as I've seen and heads haven't dropped at all."
