Black day in Birmingham The misanthropic thuggery of some Leeds fans reached its nadir in May, 1985. First there was the fighting at Birmingham that saw a wall collapse and a fan killed. That happened to be the day of the Bradford City fire in which 56 people died. A year later Leeds fans set a chip van alight during a match against Bradford at Odsal, the rugby league ground where they were forced to play matches. It was hard to be a Leeds fan in the face of such horrors. Still is.
