Somma Sits Out Reserve Game At Gateshead

18 August 2010 20:20
Davide Somma missed Leeds United's reserve game at Gateshead tonight as the striker returns from his first-team suspension. Somma was omitted from the squad for Leeds' first reserve fixture of the season with Simon Grayson set to include him in his plans for Saturday's meeting with Millwall (12:30pm ko). The forward has missed the first fortnight of United's first-team campaign due to a three-match ban incurred at the end of last term, but he completed his suspension during Sunday's 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest. Leeds have attempted to maintain his fitness with regular outings in their reserve side, and he scored in a friendly at Bradford Park Avenue seven days ago, but he was spared from action this evening prior to a possible introduction to Leeds' Championship campaign this weekend. The club planned to fully involve Somma in their Championship games but have so far been denied the use of a player who struck nine times in 14 outings while on loan with Lincoln City last season. Few of United's senior players are expected to play against Gateshead, though transfer-listed players Andy Robinson, Lubomir Michalik and Alan Sheehan will feature in tonight's 7pm kick-off at the International Stadium.
