Rothery Returns
Former Leeds United player Gavin Rothery has returned to the club in a coaching capacity. The 23-year-old whose promising full-time playing career was ended prematurely by an ankle injury, rejoined the club under the umbrella of United’s charitable arm, the Leeds United Foundation. Rothery is working with school children across Leeds after moving back to the city where his short-lived professional career began. The midfielder was a highly-rated member of United’s academy ranks and claimed a league winners’ medal with the club’s under-18s. He won a call-up to the England Under-19 squad but was released by Leeds in 2008 having undergone major reconstruction work on his injured ankle. He moved to York City and Carlisle United before joining Conference North side Guiseley, where he will play again this season. Rothery said: “I’m finding my role extremely fulfilling and I’d advise anyone to go down the coaching route. “I wouldn’t want to coach anywhere else as I’ve always been a massive Leeds fan.” Meanwhile, United’s Championship fixture list has been subject to yet another change with their match at Peterborough United on Saturday, October 22 moved to a noon kick-off on police advice.
