Paynter off the mark

Leeds striker Billy Paynter scored his first goal for the club in a 1-0 friendly win over MFK Kosice in Slovakia. Paynter, a free signing from Swindon in June, fired home a 57th-minute volley at the far post as Leeds bounced back from a 1-0 defeat to MFK Ruzomberok in the opening game of their mini tour on Monday. Leeds manager Simon Grayson had another good look at most of his first-team squad with Paynter's fellow summer signings, Kasper Schmeichel, Paul Connolly, Fede Bessone and Neill Collins all appearing. Paynter almost made it 2-0 with six minutes remaining, but was unable to keep his shot down after being played through by Mike Grella.
